The World Bank approved a grant agreement with the Iraqi Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Iraq to help strengthen the country's capacity to reform social safety net and pensions programs to better assist poor and vulnerable populations, Relief Web reported.

A multi-donor Iraq Trust Fund administered by the World Bank will finance the $8 million Emergency Social Protection Project.

Georgian Economy Minister has traveled to Turkey to take part in the Iraq International Fair - Expo Gateway to Iraq 2006 - which is being held in the city of Gaziantep from 7-11 June, civil.ge reported.

The Georgian Economy Ministry will meet the Turkish Minister of State in charge of Foreign Trade, on the sidelines of the fair to discuss the details of Georgia's participation in Iraq's economic projects.

US political officials have urged Arab nations to use profits from high oil prices to help rebuild Iraq, Bahrain Tribune reported.

Arab nations should also cancel $40 billion of previous debts owed by Baghdad, officials added.

Gulf Arab states are owed $40 billion by Iraq and the US has provoked them to follow the lead of the group of 19 wealthy nations known as the Paris Club who decided in November 2004 to write off 80 percent of debts owed to them over the next four years.

The Baghdad Governorate Council is providing unemployed people in Baghdad with more jobs, according to the Chairman of the council, Portal Iraq reported.

The chairman revealed that the council is about to initiate 30 projects in the industrial, agricultural and oil sectors.

The management of the projects will be done by foreign companies, which will be required to sub-contract Iraqi companies that will be using Iraqi workers.
